Something(s) I always wondered about...
by KenseiShimonzu inwas,if jehovah was going to bring about armegeddon to destroy the "wicked"humans who may live an average of 75 yrs +/-,who may not even know of him in their lifetime..why would he allow satan, who was directly associated with him,to exist for as long as he has?..seems to me,it would have been an instantaneous destruction because he already knew better..it would have been worse than blasphemy.. he even allowed him complete control over the earth to do as he wishes...also,if he isn't destroyed at some point, how would humans know?
no human can see spirit creatures..therefore there could be no proof that he didn't exist anymore(i.e a body).
another thing that has always bugged me about that whole scenario..why would "jehovah" the supreme creator, have the need to justify his right to rule,to a lesser spirit creature that he created...i liken it to a son telling his father that he knows better than the father about how the household should be run....sort of a moot point.

What JW Beliefs Did You...
by Abandoned inwhat jw beliefs did you make up for your own sanity?.
for me it was regarding the flood.
instead of believing that god had destroyed millions of people, i imagined that because of all the violence, by the time the flood came, the only people besides noah and his family that were still alive were the nephilim.

If Adam did not sin, would humans have lived forever on earth?
by jwfacts inthe new testament talks consistently of a heavenly hope, not an earthly one and the idea that humans are to live forever on earth is not supported scripturally at all.. however, what would have happened if adam and eve had not sinned.
the watchtower likes to make the point that it is only sin that caused adam and eve to die.
romans 5:12 that is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned.. what do christians believe regarding this scripture?

John The Baptist. More than a Prophet?
by Steve J inin bite me's recent post about the virgin birth i raised some serious questions which make us doubt that jesus was conceived by gods holy spirit.
my research over the last few years, since leaving jw's has led me to believe jesus was just a ordinary man, and to me that makes his sacrifice even more powerful.
this post raises similar questions and challenges what we actually know about john the baptist and the part he played in jesus' life.. in islam, john the baptist and jesus are as important as one another and in arabic, the language of the qur'an, john is known as yahya the infinite.

Acts 15. What is meant by Fornication
by Steve J inat atcs 15 we find the familir decision of the jerusalem elders;.
keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication.. i have always thought that fornication, or sexual imorality was a strage thing for the elders to come up with here, when they were obviously talking about issues surrounding worshiping "false gods.
could it be that the greek word porneiahas been misinterpreted here and actually refers to religious fornication in the same sense as found at rev:14,8 17:2,4 18:3 and 19:2, where the great harlot commits fornication?

Deuteronomy 32:7-9 Who is the Most High?
by Steve J inplease excuse me if you've discussed this topic before, but as a "newbie" i haven't found anything on it as yet.. 7 remember the days of old, consider the years back from generation to generation; ask your father and he can tell you; your old men and they can say it to you.
8 when the most high gave the nations an iheritance, when he parted the sons of adam fron one another, he proceeded to fix the boundary of the peoples with regard for the sons of israel.
9 for jehovah's share is his people; jacob is the allotment that he inherits.

Matt 5:17-20. What does it mean to be called least in the kingdom?
by Steve J inhi folks,.
as this seems to be the only place to get my questions answered, (and i've got lots of them) i thought i'd give this one a try.. when speaking about the commandments at matthew 5:17-20 jesus said any who break one of the least of these and teaches others to that effect would be called least in the kingdom of the heavens.
does it mean there is still hope for such ones, as being considered least would suggest to me that you would still be remembered.. also, at 1 corinthinas 6:9 where the apostle paul says fornicators and adulterers, (those who break the commandments) will not inherit the kingdom is he taking a harder line than jesus and in effect contradicting him?.

Are the Creative days 7000 years long?
by Steve J inwhere does the idea that the creative days of the genesis account were 7,000 years long come from?.
genesis doesn't suggest that they were specific time periods, but shows that one "day" extended into others.
i feel that the clue is in the words; "and there was an evening and there was a morning, a first day.
